Chocolate Covered Cherry Smoothie: A High Protein Breakfast in 5 Minutes

October 18, 2026•3 min read

Some mornings you want something that tastes like a treat but still keeps you full until lunch. This chocolate cherry smoothie does both. It has 32 grams of protein, 7 grams of fiber, and tastes like a chocolate covered cherry in a cup.

It’s also one of my favorite examples of how simple it is to build a balanced meal without giving up the foods you love.

Why This Chocolate Cherry Smoothie Works

I build meals using the PCC approach: Protein, Carb, and Color. This smoothie covers all three.

  • Protein: Fairlife chocolate milk and Greek yogurt bring most of the protein, and the powdered peanut butter adds a little more.

  • Carb: The milk, yogurt, and cherries give you energy that actually lasts when paired with protein.

  • Color: Frozen cherries add deep color, natural sweetness, and fiber.

  • Bonus: Milled chia and flax seed add fiber and healthy fats without changing the taste.

No restrictions, no “good” or “bad” foods. You’re eating what you enjoy and adding what you need.

Chocolate Cherry Smoothie Ingredients

  • 1 cup chocolate Fairlife milk

  • 3/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt

  • 1 cup frozen cherries

  • 1 tablespoon milled chia and flax seed

  • 1 tablespoon powdered peanut butter

Makes: 1 serving
Prep time: 5 minutes

How to Make It

  1. Add all ingredients to a large cup.

  2. Blend with an immersion blender until smooth.

  3. Enjoy right away.

No fancy blender needed. An immersion blender and a tall cup is all it takes, which means fewer dishes on a busy morning.

Nutrition Information

Per serving: about 445 calories, 32 g protein, 58 g carbohydrates, 8 g fat, and 7 g fiber. Numbers will vary slightly by brand.

Tips and Swaps

  • Want it thicker? Add a few extra frozen cherries or a handful of ice.

  • Want more protein? Add a scoop of your favorite protein powder, or swap in a higher protein yogurt.

  • Want more staying power? Swap the powdered peanut butter for a tablespoon of regular peanut butter. It adds about 7 grams of fat and keeps you full longer.

  • Out of cherries? Frozen mixed berries work well too.

  • Meal prep tip: Portion the cherries, chia and flax, and powdered peanut butter into bags in the freezer, then add the milk and yogurt when you’re ready to blend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this chocolate cherry smoothie high in protein?
Yes. With about 32 grams of protein per serving, it’s a great option for breakfast or a post-workout snack. Many women in midlife need more protein than they’re getting, and a smoothie like this is an easy place to start.

Can I use fresh cherries instead of frozen?
You can, but frozen cherries make the smoothie thick and cold without needing ice. If you use fresh, pit them first and add a few ice cubes.

Is this smoothie good for weight loss?
I don’t focus on weight loss as the goal here. I care about balanced meals that keep you satisfied and energized. This smoothie has protein, fiber, and carbs working together, which is what helps meals feel filling.

Can I make it dairy free?
Yes. Swap the Fairlife milk and Greek yogurt for a high protein dairy-free milk and yogurt. Nutrition will change, so check your labels.

What can I use if I don’t have powdered peanut butter?
Regular peanut butter works great. It will add more fat and calories, but also more staying power.
